San Antonio

Last week we had our first big vacation as a family. We went to San Antonio, TX for my brother's graduation from Air Force Basic Training. We had such a great time. We left early early (like 3:30 am early) and drove for about fourteen hours. I thought to myself while we were planning this trip that I was INSANE to take a two and a half year old that far in a car! But, suprisingly he did AMAZING!!!!! We thankfully were able to borrow a portable DVD player which was a lifesaver!

Then Thursday we awoke early (only like 4 our time) so that we could go to the base to the visitor briefing and Airman run. It was so cool to see and hear all the trainees running down the road, pretty close to perfectly in step. Then after the run we hung out till the coin ceremony. This is where each Airman is given a coin to symbolize moving from a trainee to an airman. We were able to spend the rest of the day with my brother on the base checking it out. It really has quite a few cool things.

Friday we again woke pretty early so we could go to the base and be there for the graduation parade. This is where they march and show off their drill skills. Afterwards we were able to check out their barracks. His was MUCH cleaner and more organized than when he lived with us. The military is doing great things for him. Afterwards we went to the Alamo and the riverwalk and just enjoyed our time with him. That night we went to the San Antonio Rampage hockey game. It was a special game supporting breast cancer awareness so they dyed the rink pink. C LOVED the first period or so and then fell asleep.

Then Saturday my dad and grandpa went and picked Justin up for breakfast and we just spent the day visiting and enjoying our time with him. We also went for a walk and found this really cool park.

Sunday we again got up early early and traveled home. It was a really long weekend but a great one. I am so thankful for the opportunity to go.

Here's a few pictures!
